You need a retaining wall when your property has a slope that erodes, a grade change that requires leveling, or drainage issues that undermine landscaping or structures. Retaining walls address sloped yards, parking areas, and waterfront-adjacent sites where soil movement and water pressure require engineered support. This work is common for HOA developments, large residential yards, and commercial landscapes.
Capstone Landscape Design builds retaining walls with proper drainage, reinforcement, and materials selected for long-term durability. Every project is performed directly by the owner to verify that walls meet local standards and site conditions. The company is BBB accredited, fully licensed, insured and bonded for residential and commercial work, and estimates are available.
If you need to control erosion, create usable yard space, or stabilize a slope in Brick, Toms River, Point Pleasant or the surrounding areas reach out to Capstone Landscape Design.
The site is excavated to stable soil, and a compacted stone base is installed to support the wall. Drainage pipe is placed behind the wall and covered with gravel to direct water away from the structure. Geogrid or tie-backs are installed on taller walls to anchor the structure into the slope. Blocks are set with a slight backward lean to resist forward pressure from soil and water.
After installation, you will notice stable slopes that no longer erode during storms, level yard areas that can be used for landscaping or recreation, and drainage that functions without pooling or undercutting. The wall holds its position through freeze-thaw cycles without bowing, cracking, or shifting.
This service does not include soil testing or engineering stamped plans unless contracted separately. It focuses on constructing walls using proven methods and materials suited to residential and light commercial applications. Most retaining wall projects in our service area are completed within one to three weeks depending on height, length, and site access.
What property owners ask before building
Homeowners and property managers often want to know how tall a retaining wall can be built, what materials last longest, and whether drainage is included. Below are answers to the most common questions about retaining wall projects.
Most residential walls range from two to four feet. Taller walls may require engineered plans, permits, and additional reinforcement depending on local zoning and soil conditions.
Spring and fall offer the best weather for excavation and base compaction. Winter work in Ocean & Monmouth county is possible if the ground is not frozen, while summer heat can speed drying but requires careful water management.
Capstone Landscape Design has been building retaining walls since 2006, with direct owner involvement on every project. If you need to control erosion, stabilize a slope, or create usable yard space, contact the team for an estimate.
